Nova: HPC for Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

Las jornadas "HPC for Geophysical Fluid Dynamics 2019" tienen como objetivo presentar los últimos avances en la aplicación de técnicas HPC (High Performance computing) en el desarrollo de modelos numéricos para la simulación de fluídos.

Actualmente, el modelado numérico es una herramienta fundamental para la gestión de recursos y prevención de riesgos relacionados con el agua. Es importante para predecir el comportamiento de los sistemas de protección costera ante temporales cada vez más frecuentes y con mayor intensidad debido al cambio climático y para desarrollar mapas de riesgo ante inundaciones provocadas por periodos intensos de lluvia. Sin embargo, habitualmente, estas simulaciones requieren la simulación de grandes dominios con alta resolución, lo que supone un elevado coste computacional. Por todo esto, es imperativo que los modelos de simulación numérica utilicen técnicas de HPC (High Performance Computing) para aprovechar los recursos computacionales que ofrecen los centros de supercomputación.

Durante estas jornadas se van a presentar los últimos avances en el desarrollo de los modelos numéricos IBER, IHFoam y DualSPHysics, así como aplicaciones que sólo se pueden estudiar gracias al uso de HPC. Los asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de escuchar las ponencias de expertos en el modelado numérico y HPC, así como a los propios desarrolladores de estos modelos.

El equipo de organización incluye expertos de diferentes países que usan HPC en investigaciones de excelencia, lo que resultará de gran interés para la red de computación de altas prestaciones.

Nova: IBERGRID 2019: Delivering Innovative Computing and Data services to Researchers

The 10th Iberian Grid Conference will take place in Santiago de Compostela, from September 23rd to 26th, hosted by CESGA.

The conference topics will be centered on the development and delivery of innovative computing and data services to researchers.

Following this spirit, on Thursday 26th the project EOSC-synergy organizes, along with its kick off meeting, a one-day tutorial dedicated to introduce the usage of basic and innovative tools oriented to support computing and data processing on Cloud infrastructures. The attendance to the tutorial will be free of charge for those registered in IBERGRID 2019. A certificate will be issued to the attendants. More information on the tutorial content will follow in the upcoming weeks.

This is the list of tutorials and hands-on sessions in IBERGRID 2019:

  • On Tuesday 24th of September the INDIGO-Datacloud sponsors special hands-on sessions oriented to software developers and service providers, dedicated to Federated Authorization & Authentication, and on Distributed Data Management tools. The later includes a Hackaton on OneData.
  • On Wednesday 25th of September, CSIC Quantum Technologies platform will deliver a tutorial dedicated to application integration and usage of Quantum Computing systems. In particular the tutorial will focus on the usage of the IBM Q computer.
  • On Thursday 26th of September we will deliver a tutorial on Innovative Computing and Data Processing tools for Researchers.

Nova: Taller Big Data: Usando Spark 2

El CESGA celebrará el del 16 al 19 de julio un taller Big Data donde se explicarán los conceptos básicos de Apache Spark.  El taller será eminentemente práctico y los asistentes tendrán que resolver problemas diversos utilizando Spark. 

Al final del curso los asistentes tendrán los conocimientos necesarios para comenzar a utilizar Spark en sus tareas cotidianas de análisis de datos.

Fecha y hora: del 16 al 19 de julio en horario de mañana de 10:00h. a 14:00h.
Lugar: CESGA, Avda. de Vigo s/n - Campus Vida - Santiago de compostela.
Destinatarios: El taller está destinado a usuarios de la plataforma Big Data que deseen aprender a utilizar Spark 2.

Nova: Big Data Workshop: Introduction to CESGA’s Hadoop 3 platform

This workshop will be a introduction to CESGA's Big Data platform. This platform was updated to Hadoop 3 and includes a new version of Spark 2.4.

This workshop will serve as an introduction to the tools available within the Hadoop 3 platform. The workshop will also serve as the basis for subsequent workshops on specific tools included in the platform, such as Spark.

Date: 11 june 10:00 a.m.  to 13:00 p.m.

REGISTRATION CLOSE

Place: CESGA, Avda. de Vigo s/n, Campus Vida - Santiago de compostela

Recipients: The workshop is intended for both current users of the Big Data platform and new users who need access to Big Data tools.

What will I learn during the workshop?

At the end of the workshop you will know:

  • How to connect to the Hadoop 3 platform
  • How to transfer data efficiently
  • What tools that are available
  • How to launch these tools

What will NOT be taught during the workshop?

Given that this is an introductory workshop and the wide variety of tools available, this workshop will not explain how to use each of the tools, but it will simply show how to access them, their main features and how they are launched.

Subsequently, specific workshops will be held that will focus on specific tools such as Spark, where its use will be taught in detail.

Nova: Advanced Course - IHFOAM applied to Coastal engineering - FOAM@Iberia 2019 - Jun 11th and 12th - Porto

The 3rd FOAM@Iberia Meeting, to be held in 11-12 June at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (Portugal), will be the annual meeting point of the OpenFOAM® Iberian community.

We are pleased to announce the Advanced Course on IHFOAM applied to Coastal engineering by Dr. Gabriel Barajas at the 3rd Iberian meeting of OpenFOAM® technology users, FOAM@Iberia 2019.

Dr. Gabriel Barajas, from the Coastal Hydrodynamics and Infrastructures Group at IHCantabria , has a degree in Physical Science and Master in Integrated Coastal Zone Management by the Universidad de Cantabria. Gabriel works in the coastal engineering field, developing numerical tools in 2D and 3D, validation and application to research and consultancy projects, both nationally and internationally. He is one of the developers of IHFOAM .

IHCantabria , the Environmental Hydraulics Institute from the Cantabria University, is a research institute with over 140 researchers and 30 years of experience in the fields of hydraulics, hydrodynamics, offshore engineering and fluid structure interaction among others.

IHFOAM is a three-dimensional numerical two-phase flow solver designed to simulate coastal, offshore and hydraulic engineering processes. It presents a wide collection of boundary conditions which handle wave generation and active absorption at the boundaries, that allow the generations of any type of wave in a 3D domain, from the most simple regular waves to complex, real and fully 3D irregular directional sea states.
