The Galicia Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) presents the findings of its annual report on scientific output for 2025, which details the research activity carried out by our user community using the computing infrastructures (HPC, HTC, Big Data and scientific visualisation) during that year. Among all the information contained in this document, three aspects stand out:
The family is growing: a constantly expanding user community
The scientific output questionnaire was sent to 1,686 accounts (43.9 per cent more than in 2024), of which 1,045 responded (a 62 per cent response rate). Those who responded account for 97.5 per cent of the computing hours consumed by the entire group of users surveyed. The CSIC and the USC account for the largest numbers of users, whilst accounts associated with the RES have grown by 115.5 per cent compared with the previous year.
All-time high in publications
Users of the CESGA infrastructure reported 626 publications in 2025, surpassing the 2024 figure (611) and setting a new record in the 2004–2025 historical series. The overall figure breaks down into 463 articles (a figure that also exceeds the historical record), 143 conference papers and 20 theses. Physics is the field with the most publications (130), followed by Bioinformatics, Chemistry and Biochemical Modelling.
Projects
A total of 388 active projects were reported, the highest figure since 2013, representing an increase of 52 projects compared with 2024. The majority are R&D projects (336). The total funding amounts to €442,145,618, well above previous years, of which €96,532,670 is allocated directly to research groups. A total of 504 funded jobs were created, also a record figure.
All these figures reflect a well-established trend of sustained growth since 2020, highlighting the strategic importance of CESGA as a critical infrastructure for scientific research in Galicia, Spain and Europe.
