Support equipment

In order to be able to guarantee quality service that is available 24 hours per day during the 365 days of the year, CESGA has support infrastructures for computing equipment.

Equipamiento eléctrico

Electrical equipment

In order to guarantee a stable and continuous electrical supply, CESGA has the following available equipment.

  • 2 transformers, one of 1600KVA and another of 600KVA
  • Electrical generation equipment – 1125KVA
  • Vertiv Trinergy Cube 400KVAs 10 minutes of autonomy
  • Vertiv EXL S1 500KVAs 40 minutes of autonomy, Ion-Lithium battery

Refrigeration system

The computing and storage equipment should be kept at temperature and humidity conditions in accordance with ASHRAE recommendations. In order to guarantee these conditions the Centre has the following climate control equipment.

  • 2 Emerson Matrix SQS Cooling plants – 580KW of power each
  • 8 L15 units of 120 KW
  • 6 Outside units FC-UE 29 of 53kW per unit cooling capacity
  • 13 Cold doors FC-D de 30kW per unit cooling capacity

Fire extinction system

We have smoke detection equipment that activates the system of alarm and extinction of fires using HFC227 gas.

DPC – Data Processing Centre

The Centre has of a room of 340 square meters to house its own equipment as well as external equipment.

Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency is an increasingly important aspect within a supercomputing centre since the electrical consumption of the equipment (servers, storage, and network) has increased dramatically. This is supported by the fact that, today, a supercomputing centre such as CESGA has an average consumption of more than 300KW which implies an high cost for electrical supply. With such consumption, it is very important to evaluate mechanisms in order to improve energy efficiency because a reduction in consumption or an improvement in taking advantage of resources supposes a huge economic benefit as well as an environmental benefit. To this end, the Centre has implemented an energy efficiency policy designed to reduce consumption and to improve efficiency in the electrical consumption of the Centre by means of the utilisation of systems and practices that optimise this resource and the continual measurement of performance via the PUE (Power Usage Efficiency).

The Center has the ISO50001: 2011 certification and has an energy efficiency monitoring and management system and constantly measures its efficiency to reduce electricity consumption and CO2 emissions. Our PUE (Energy Use Efficiency) is in 1.49 of media for the whole year 2021.

Eficiencia energética

The Centre has an energy efficiency monitoring and management system and constantly measures efficiency in order to reduce electrical consumption and CO2 emissions. Our PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) had an average of 1.71 for the entire year, 2011.
