CESGA launches the test run of Peneira, a tool for collaborative science projects in 35 secondary schools in Galicia
– Nearly 1,000 students will participate in the piloting of this free web and mobile platform for data collection and analysis.

On December 3, the Galician Public Foundation Supercomputing Centre of Galicia (CESGA) held the kick-off session for the test run of the Peneira tool to validate the project focused on citizen science and educational innovation.
About Peneira
Peneira is a free web and mobile tool designed and developed by CESGA specifically for collaborative science and school science. The platform allows researchers and teachers to create and manage multidisciplinary projects, making field data collection easier for students and collaborators, as it runs from their own devices, or even from sensors connected to external devices. This data can then be downloaded and analysed in the context of the classroom or a research project.
Scope and participation in the Peneira pilot course
The Peneira pilot course began yesterday and is being carried out in collaboration with CIEDIX of the Education Council of the regional government, eight Galician educational centres and the TecnoEduc research group of the University of Santiago de Compostela, which will support its evaluation.
This experience will involve significant participation in the Galician educational sphere:
– 35 teachers from 8 secondary schools throughout Galicia will be trained and will guide the projects.
– Around 1,000 students will be actively involved in the development of collaborative science and citizen science projects in the educational sphere throughout this school year.
The main objective is to provide schools with an open technological infrastructure to promote active learning, research and the development of scientific skills among students.
Commitment to education and research
With this initiative, CESGA reinforces its strategic line of work to provide innovative and open tools that offer essential support to education and research in the Galician community, promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology to the education system.
