Once again, CESGA joins the celebration of the International Girls in ICT Day on 23 April.
Together with the Dirección Xeral de Igualdade and the Colexio Profesional de Enxeñaría Informática de Galicia (CPEIG), we are organising a virtual panel featuring four Galician women working in the technology sector from different fields — an open panel aimed specifically at students in the final years of primary and secondary school in Galicia.
Participating students will have the opportunity to learn from their testimonies, career paths, experiences, challenges and achievements, and to ask them questions, raise doubts and seek advice.

For 2026, we are joined by four researchers from diverse fields, whose experience and reflections will put a voice and a face to a reality where much remains to be done: women’s access to education and careers in ICT. This year’s guests, along with many other women who have paved the way for younger generations, hold invaluable lessons that will surely inspire the professionals of the future.
Marta Castiñeira Reis
Marta Castiñeira Reis works at CESGA as a research technician in computational simulation and data analysis on the EDD-DATAlife project. She holds a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and Molecular Modelling from the Universidade de Vigo (2019), a field that uses computational methods to study the structure, properties and reactivity of molecules. During her doctoral thesis and postdoctoral stage, she investigated catalysis processes — that is, chemical reactions accelerated or directed by certain substances to obtain new compounds of interest, including potential drugs. She has also worked in astrochemistry, studying how molecules form in space and what chemical processes can take place under extreme conditions, such as those found in the interstellar medium. Her work combines chemistry, physics, computer science and data analysis to answer complex questions about matter, both on Earth and in the universe.
Patricia González Gómez
Patricia González Gómez is a professor and researcher in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Universidade da Coruña. Her research focuses on high-performance computing, including the use of supercomputers, cloud computing and big data analysis to solve complex scientific problems. She also works in areas such as bioinformatics and the development of advanced methods for accelerating calculations and analysing large volumes of information. She coordinated the Master’s Degree in High Performance Computing and has held various management positions at the Universidade da Coruña.
Hilda Romero Velo
Hilda Romero Velo is a researcher at CITIC and a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the Universidade da Coruña (UDC). With a background in Music and Computer Science, and experience as a pianist and bagpipe player, her research focuses on Music Information Retrieval and Computational Ethnomusicology. She works primarily with music from oral traditions, such as Galician and Irish music, using computer science and bioinformatics methodologies and algorithms to analyse and compare melodies in order to understand the relationships between different musical traditions. She also develops tools that facilitate the learning of sheet music and systems capable of searching for scores from a sung melody or an instrumental performance.
Aránzazu Sucasas Hermida
Aránzazu Sucasas Hermida works at Telefónica and is currently a doctoral candidate at the Universidad de Vigo (UVigo), where she conducts research focused on the segmentation of breast lesions using magnetic resonance imaging for the early detection of breast cancer. She holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering and Digital Health. She currently works in Radio Optimisation at Telefónica Móviles, focusing on the analysis and improvement of mobile network performance (5G, 4G and 3G) to ensure the quality of voice and data services.
