“ABC” is an R+D Project acronym for ” Competence based learning. Semantic based mediation system“. It is financed by Xunta de Galicia, R+D dept, starting sept 2009 through Aug 2012.
It is coordinated by e-learning area at CESGA, with the collaboration of the Telematics engineering dept at Vigo University. This project aims to develop a technological-pedagogical platform based on semantic technologies, to define learning competencies as well as to locate training courses easily through a common web. This system would allow someone to search for courses by specifying the skills / competences he/she wants to achieve.
Now, professional competences are still being defined (as they depend on specific and knowledge fields) and it is very difficult to locate training offer to suit a proffesional activity according to a specific job.
This need is also present for employers: there are no direct mechanisms that allows them to check beforehand if training courses presented by a job applicant are relevant or not. Besides, there are no tools that allow them to easily define the competences they need for a specific job.
