Boats4Schools project expects to create a fun and educational methodology that can get young students’ attention to the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math as a possible pathway for the future, adding A (Art) skills to the technical skills of STEM. Boats4Schools is committed to create an exciting yet challenging educational experience involving students with age ranges from 12 to 17 in a challenge where students (working as a team) will have to build a miniature boat under very strict rules like powered by a sustainable energy or manufacturing with composite materials, and by doing that inspiring students to get in contact and learn about several technologies like 3D modelling, Additive Manufacturing, Cloud Manufacturing, Computer Engineering tools, Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Innovation, Design and Creativity.
The Boats4Schools strategic objectives are:
– Raise awareness of youngsters about future career paths in STEM and promote an enthusiasm for these career options;
– Offer young students the opportunity to have contact with STEAM practical contents and Skills in a ludic and educational approach;
– Influence teachers and career advisors to orient young students to STEM careers highlighting the opportunities available in the labor market.
– Addressing the problem of low rates in classes like Math, Engineering and other applied science fields through more effective, innovative teaching methods.
